I grew up in South Hills area (kind of ...Lets say I went to elementary school here) Then moved to the awful desert SW forever and had not been back for over 50 years and this is my home again. We moved to Pittsburgh the very day The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated Baltimore Orioles in game 7 (the 1971 World Series.) This was the scene but 10 times more raukous

It was Sunday, October 17, 1971 and we rolled into Pittsburgh right when the game had ended about 5:45 pm. My dad had a great job working for Westinghouse and Westinghouse was headquartered in Pittsburgh and this is why this was to be our new city.

We were listening to the World Series Pirates win on AM radio.

Our Little family of 4 rode into PGH in a tiny Fiat sedan and when he hit the Dormont area people were rushing up to our little car rocking it back and forth.

Fireworks were shot in the street, streamers everywhere, it was like a riot but a riot of joy.

I nudged my brother in a playful spirit (we were both anxious about a new environment, new school) but once I saw the mayhem and chaos we knew we had arrived in the greatest city in the World.

People were shooting what were called "polish cannons" made from tennis or soup cans

The night got even better. We were heading north into the city where my dad wanted to show us his new office in the Westinghouse building. We traveled on Route 19 Northbound through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and when I first saw the three rivers and the Pittsburgh Skyline my jaw was again on the floor of the Fiat.

SPOONWOOD BREWING COMPANY

Fast forward from 1971 to 2023 (you do the math) and I'm sitting at Spoonwood Brewing Company in Bethel Park. This is Pittsburgh's best brewery. The atmosphere is astounding, every architectural detail has been planned. The lighting, the fixtures, the tap handles, the bathroom, the concrete countertop on the bar.

The architecture is very "start up" modern with high ceilings exposed duct works and the natural lighting is amazing. I haven't talked to the owners but I know they hired an incredible architect or perhaps the ownership has an architect on staff because this is the best looking facility in Bethel Park hands down. The food is incredible. I've had everything on the menu. They have happy hour specials such as the half nachos for $9 which are meal by themselves.

My "go to" beer right now is their White Hot Rage made with Habanero peppers upon a Belgian white beer. Like drinking an enchilada. Very spicey and kickass

More on Game 7 win in 1971 World Series

Game 7 was the only game in which the visiting team won. It was the fourth World Series in which the home team won each of the first six games before the road team won Game 7 with the others being 1955, 1956 and 1965.
